Submission (Extended) Deadline Jul 30, 2021 Notification Due Aug 30, 2021 Final Version Due Sep 20, 2021
Keywords: data mining, machine learning, big data, neural networks
Final Call For Papers
The International Conference on Intelligent Data Engineering and Automated Learning (IDEAL) is an annual international conference dedicated to emerging and challenging topics in intelligent data analytics and associated learning systems and paradigms. Following the recent successful events: IDEAL 2020 in Guimarães (virtual), IDEAL 2019 in Manchester, and IDEAL 2018 in Madrid, the 22nd edition, IDEAL 2021 will be back in Manchester, as a virtual, physical or hybrid event. Its core themes or topics include, but not limited to:
Big Data Analytics Machine Learning & Deep Learning Data Mining Information Retrieval and Management Bio and Neuro-Informatics Bio-Inspired Models Agents and Hybrid Intelligent Systems Real-world Applications of Intelligent Techniques Special Sessions & Workshops You are welcome to suggest a proposal for a Special Session or Workshop on a focused active or emerging topic in the scope of IDEAL – see IDEAL Themes for details.
Instructions for authors
Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts (in pdf format) written in English by the deadline via the conference online submission system (Easychair). All submissions will be refereed by experts in the field based on originality, significance, quality and clarity. All contributions must be original, should not have been published elsewhere and must not be submitted elsewhere during the review period. Papers should be within 8 pages but must not exceed 12 pages, and must comply with the format of Springer LNCS/LNAI Proceedings (see www.springer.com/lncs).
Short Papers To encourage emerging results and novel initial developments, especially from PhD students and young researchers, we accept short papers of 4 – 6 LNCS pages. Short papers may be submitted a few days after the deadline. Such papers will also go through our vigorous peer-review process for its novelty and soundness with a much quicker turn-around time. Although short papers are mainly for the main track, they can be submitted to one of the Special Sessions too. The submission system will automatically treat any papers that are within 4 – 6 pages as short papers and PC chairs will ensure a speedy review of them.
Paper submission for IDEAL 2021 is via Easychair: easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ideal2021
Call for Workshops and Special Sessions
Special Sessions In addition to the regular sessions, there are a few special sessions devoted to emerging topics and areas with growing attention – see IDEAL 2021 website for details of approved Special Sessions. Researchers and prospective organizers, should you interested propose a new Special Session, please submit a one-page proposal as soon as possible to IDEAL Pagramme Committee Co-Chairs [atallon@us.es], including the following information: • The title of the special session. • The organizers with their affiliations. • A description of why the topic is of special interest and how it fits to the scope of IDEAL. Each special session preferably consists of four or more presentations. Special sessions receiving less than 4 papers will be merged into the main track.
Workshops Workshops focus on new and emerging topics. In contrast to special sessions, workshops should include an introductory talk or tutorial on the topic and will have final discussions at the end of the workshop. Apart from the introductory talk in the discussion, Workshops should preferably include six or more additional presentations. Researchers or prospective organisers are invited to submit a one-page proposals for workshops to the conference address [atallon@us.es]. In addition to the information required for special sessions, workshop proposal should also include the following:
• The name(s) of the presenter(s) of the introductory talk. • A theme for the discussion.
Best Paper Awards IDEAL 2021 will be awarding Best Papers awards in several categories, sponsored by Springer and IEEE CIS UK & Ireland Chapter.
Journal Special Issues
Authors of selected accepted papers from IDEAL 2021 will be invited to submit an extended and improved version for consideration for Special Issue in several journals – details on website. For example, IDEAL 2021 has agreed with ASOc (Applied Soft Computing, impact factor: 5.47) that authors of the best papers will be invited to submit extended versions (at least 30% of new content) of their work to be appreciated for publication in a Fast Track submission process of the ASOC Journal.
COVID-19 Situations
It was the organisers’ intention to hold IDEAL 2021 as a traditional conference as possible. At the same time, given the COVID situation in the UK, uncertainty and possible travel restrictions and difficulties, IDEAL 2021 will accept virtual presentations from the authors of accepted papers. We will watch the situations closely and update you regularly. Should you have any questions, please contact us.
Partners and Co-Sponsors
IDEAL 2021 is organised by the University of Manchester, technically co-sponsored by the IEEE CIS UK & Ireland Chapter and WFSC (World Federation on Soft Computing). Publication partners are Springer. Registration and Venue partners are Magnifisense and Pendulum Hotel and Manchester Conference Centre.

Special Track on Ambient Intelligence and Affective Environments (AmIA Environments 2021) 20th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence – EPIA 2021 (Online)
7th-9th September, 2021 www.appia.pt/epia2021
———————————- – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – Submission deadline: 15th April, 2021 ———————————- – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is a paradigm emerging from Artificial Intelligence (AI), where computers are used as proactive tools assisting people with their day-to-day activities, making everyone’s life more comfortable.
Affect and social behaviour plays an important role in the development of Ambient Intelligent Environments. Consideration of aspects like emotions, mood, personality traits, and attitudes in human-computer, human-robot, and human-environment interaction, especially insofar as they provide better or more “natural” support for humans. These environments should be aware of the needs of people, customizing requirements and forecasting behaviours.
AmI environments may be highly diverse, such as homes, offices, meeting rooms, schools, hospitals, control centers, transport facilities, tourist attractions, stores, sport installations, music devices, etc.
In the Thematic track on AmIA Environments we will create a multi-disciplinary discussion forum that will bring together researchers from the different fields addressed discussing issues in Artificial Intelligence topics included in the Ambient Intelligence and affective environments. Researchers are welcome to present both theoretical and practical works as well as the lessons learned with their application in the varied range of domains. Emphasis will be placed on the presentation of concrete systems, discussion of implementation and development challenges and sharing of conclusions achieved and relevant results.
