[rede.APPIA] New edition (2nd) of the Modern Optimization with R book (Springer)

Dear all,

The 2nd edition of the “Modern Optimization with R” Springer book has been recently released (254 pages):

The goal of this book is to gather in a single work the most relevant concepts related in optimization methods, showing how such theories and methods can be addressed using the open source, multi-platform R tool. Examples of popular modern methods discussed in this book are: simulated annealing; tabu search; genetic algorithms; differential evolution; and particle swarm optimization.
This new edition integrates the latest R packages through text and code examples. It also discusses new topics, such as: the impact of artificial intelligence and business analytics in modern optimization tasks; the creation of interactive Web applications; usage of parallel computing; and more modern optimization algorithms (e.g., iterated racing, ant colony optimization, grammatical evolution).

Cumprimentos / Regards,
—

Prolog friends,

I thought you might be interested in this project to crowd-fund a memorial documentary of Alain Colmerauer, in lieu of an in-person memorial event.

Their goal is €5,400, and with 56 days to go they’ve raised 35%.

Paul

Hi Paul

I’m Alain Colmerauer wife and I think you might be interested by the film we are preparing  ….

It’s here :

The project is a film to portray Alain Colmerauer’s life and work

In fact that was the best solution to invite witnesses in this period of sanitary difficulties.

Best wishes

Colette

[rede.APPIA] Fwd: Parceria | Champalimaud Research Symposium 2020

13.10.2021 – 15.10.2021

2021 Champalimaud Research Symposium
Dialogues on Neural and Machine Intelligence

Dear colleague,

Registrations for the Champalimaud Research Symposium 2021 (CRS21) are now open!

It is with great enthusiasm that we invite you to register for the first hybrid edition of CRS! CRS21 will be held at the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown (CCU), in a stunning setting on the waterfront in Lisbon, Portugal, from October 13 to 15. In addition to its scientific programme with an exciting list of invited speakers and poster sessions, the event will also feature a social programme which will give you the opportunity to get to know the CCU culture and explore the beautiful and historic Portuguese capital.

This year, we are also opening the symposium to online delegates, hoping this new format will allow us to include researchers unable to participate in person, to promote exposure within the scientific community and to contribute to a richer and deeper dialogue on neural and machine intelligence.

Although in-person delegates benefit from real time interactions and a diverse programme of scientific and social activities at the CCU, both in-person and online delegates will have access to a virtual platform where all CRS21-content related materials will be shared and the panel sessions live streamed. In this platform, delegates will be able to engage with the speakers via chat, network with colleagues, participate in poster sessions, visit the partners’ booths and revisit sessions.

Registrations for in-person attendance are now open until September 25th, with Early Bird discount fees available only until September 5th! Registration for online attendance is also open and will be available until the end of the event. To register and for more information on your registration, click here.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us via:
symposium@research.fchampalimaud.org.

We are looking forward to seeing you in October!

With best wishes,

Joe Paton & Leopoldo Petreanu, Champalimaud Research
Jakob Macke, University of Tübingen
Chairs of the 2021 Champalimaud Research Symposium

Registration deadlines:
Early bird – Sept 5th
Regular – Sept 19th
Late – Sept 26th
Onsite – Oct 13th
Virtual Ticket – Oct 15th

COVID-19: If required by pandemic regulations, the organisers are prepared to adopt a contingency plan for the symposium to become fully virtual. In the event of cancellation/postponement/change of format due to COVID-19, the Champalimaud Foundation bears no responsibility for any expenses incurred by participants/guests, except for the registration fee which will be fully refunded or adjusted to the corresponding format. We recommend that any participant/guest who would like to attend the symposium in-person should activate their private travel insurance as a guarantee against possible cancellations.
